    The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will host the exhibition “Respire” Jan. 25 through March 20 at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, SFA’s historic art gallery located in downtown Nacogdoches.

    “Respire” features 16 artists working in a variety of different media resulting in an exciting, diverse exhibition of emerging and established artists representing many artistic fields and ideas. A reception is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, at the art center.

    Admission to the exhibition and reception, which is sponsored in part by William Arscott, the Friends of the Visual Arts and The Flower Shop, is free. Art center hours are noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, call (936) 468-5500.

    The Wind Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform its first concert of the spring semester at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus. Admission is free.

    The concert serves as the final performance of a three-day winter performance and recruiting tour in the Houston area, according to Dr. Tamey Anglley, director of bands at SFA and director of the Wind Ensemble, which will spend Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 performing at Foster, Needville, Dayton, Crosby and The Woodlands high schools.

    The ensemble will perform works by John Mackey, Dmitry Shostakovich, Giancarlo Aquilanti and Karl King, among other composers. For additional information, contact the School of Music at (936) 468-4602.

    The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University has been invited to perform at this year’s Texas Music Educators Association convention slated for Feb. 9 through 12 in San Antonio.

    The ensemble’s TMEA program will be presented in a preview concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. The recital features works by Joe W. Moore, Francisco Perez, Andrea Venet and Andy Akiho.

    Mezzo soprano Dianna Grabowski will be a featured soloist when the Pineywoods Camerata performs at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

    The Pineywoods Camerata is an SFA faculty-led, conductorless chamber orchestra, dedicated to period-informed performances of Baroque music. Grabowski will perform as vocal soloist for BWV 170 by J.S. Bach. Other works on the program include “Merry” Suite in C major by Georg Philip Telemann and Concerto Grosso Op. 6 No. 4 by George Frederick Handel.

    The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Girl Power,” a concert featuring art songs for voice and piano written by women composers, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

    The performance will include works by Margaret Bonds, Jennifer Higdon, Lori Laitman, Maria Theresia von Paradies and Caitlin Vincent. Faculty performers include Debbie Berry, soprano; Ric Berry, tenor; Nita Hudson, mezzo soprano; Scott LaGraff, baritone; Ron Petti, piano; Chris Turner, baritone; and Jamie Weaver, soprano and opening remarks.
